Welcome to Hudson Village Theatre
I’m thrilled to welcome you to our 25th Season! Coinciding with Canada’s 150th birthday, I can’t think of a more special and exciting year.
It’s a testament to the positive and generous spirit of our volunteers, supporters, board members, staff, artists and most importantly you – our audience – that Hudson Village Theatre has reached this incredible milestone. So, thank you – from the bottom of our hearts.
We have quite the lineup for you this year in celebration of these special anniversaries. Our theme for the season is New Worlds and our productions are filled, appropriately, with the spirit of adventure, discovery, important milestones, and celebration.
Kicking off the season, The Pianomen: Elton John and Billy Joel sets the tone as an homage to two of the most charismatic and unforgettable performers ever to hit the stage. A dynamic concert featuring some of the best music ever written, the hits of Billy Joel and Elton John are performed flawlessly by The Pianomen, backed up by a stellar band. This flamboyant live concert performance is the ultimate duelling pianos show, featuring a line-up of the hits you love, such as ‘Crocodile Rock’, ‘Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me’, ‘Candle in the Wind’, ‘Piano Man, ‘Uptown Girl’, and ‘An Innocent Man’.
Next up, we can’t wait to introduce you to the Quebec Premiere of Jonas and Barry in the Home – the newest hit comedy by audience favourite, Norm Foster. Two unforgettable characters, Jonas and Barry, enter the new world of retirement and have recently moved into an assisted living home. Follow the laugh-a-minute shenanigans of these two larger-than-life characters as they search for clever ways to spice up their lives and the lives of those around them. Love, sex and attempts at happiness are all on the menu as this hilarious and deeply moving story will bring tears of joy and laughter, as Jonas and Barry win your hearts.
In August, we embark upon a thrilling adventure, as we present the Canadian Premiere of beloved Jules Verne classic, Around the World in 80 Days. Timeless adventure comes to life on Hudson Village Theatre’s stage as we follow Phileas Fogg and his new valet, Passepartout, as they attempt to travel the globe in 80 days on a wager from his friends at London’s Reform Club. It is 1873, and the world is connected by railway, steamer ship and hot air balloon. Join the wild adventure, as Phileas Fogg races against the clock to traverse the world – and the New World – in record time. A must-see!
In celebration of Canada’s 150th, we cap off our season with Louis Riel: A Comic Book Stage Play. Based on Chester Brown’s acclaimed graphic novel, a slice of Canadian history is brought to life in a stunningly original way.
Witness the graphic novel come to life before your eyes, as the story of enigmatic figure, Louis Riel, breathes in life-sized 2 dimensional puppetry, mourns in shadow-imagery, and rallies his men in the voice of the actor. History is sketched out on stage document by document, fort by fort, prayer by prayer, and battle by battle. Charismatic Riel, conflicted, troubled by visions and personal discussions with God, is a gifted leader in a time when defying the dominant society was a treacherous affair.
A genius theatrical experience, the production was nominated for 7 METAs (Montreal English Theatre Awards) this year. RustWerk ReFinery’s theatrical adaptation simply pops with the vibrant and stunning artistry of the original graphic novel!
If you’ve visited us in the past – welcome back. And if this will be your first time to our theatre – welcome! Hudson Village Theatre is one of the most unique venues in the country and a Quebec cultural gem. Join us as we celebrate 25 seasons of rich theatrical adventure and 150 years of nationhood. Happy Birthday!
